CooliT Omni A.L.C. & ECO A.L.C. Coolers
« on: 01/21/10 - 12:05 PM »
Dave,
Happy New Year, buddy. Got a question for you. CooliT has a unit similar to the H50 and they also showed off a GPU cooler at CES this year. Looks interesting. So my question is do you think you'll be doing any testing to see if these  cooler units will work in a Qmicra V2?

You too Skott! We'll... they should fit no prob. The case has excellent airflow so they'll have room to breathe. I'm kind of digging these new all-in-one liquid cooling devices. Don't see why they wouldn't work well in Qv2!

Yeah, I know what you mean. These all in one units are pretty nifty. I put a Corsair H50 into my SG03 recently to keep the new i5 750 CPU cool and it works great. These types of units are going to be a big help for SFF case users I feel.

Totally agree. At first I was skeptical about their cooling power but they appear to be nice clean little setups that are easy to install and work great. I'm working the rad bracket back into the next version of Qv2 and maybe even another one up front so it should be a perfect platform for these products.

Thats good to hear, Dave. I think my only concern I really have of the H50 is how long it will last before I need to replace it? Its warranted for 2 years but when it starts to go will it leak and if so can I catch it in time before that happens? I'd hate to be sitting there one day and hear a PIFFFFF! and see sparks and smoke. LOL

Yeah but that's always been the issue with water cooling in general. If the system fails it can be messy chip frying disaster. That's why I focused on air cooling and  accommodating the large heatsinks for the current Qv2 version as they work really well... even if your fan quits.

CPU's are also getting cooler as they shrink to 45nm and 32nm tech although they've just been adding more cores to bring the heat back up to 65+W. Still waiting for game programmers to really take advantage of the additional cores though. That's why I still think the AM3 tri-core is the best bang for your buck gaming rig CPU. It has an extra core if needed, it's dirt cheap, very over-clockable, more cooling overhead than a 125W quad-core and will run anything out there very fast. In fact, I don't think you can perceptibly tell the difference in speed between a moderately OC'd AM3 tri-core and a stock high end Intel quad core at 6x the price. Especially if you have a speedy SSD.

On then other hand... it's kind of hilarious to see GPU cards getting so huge and toasty. So these self contained liquid cooling things are great as they can save space and move heat away from the inside of the case more efficiently.

Anyway, I'm keeping my eye on this stuff so Qv2 supports the latest and greatest toys. Apologies for taking longer to get the next version out. We're focusing on the new mini-ITX box line and a few OEM customers right now.

Yeah, I wish they could start making the video cards smaller. Its starting to get crazy to find SFF cases that will fit the biggest of them especially since ITX is starting to catch on. Looking forward to seeing your next line of products.
